not so easy to find

when distracted by 

all the ways we are

*expected* to act. 

a society of misery

follow or be left

live up to the rules

reminders of failure

lurk in our heads

and we tell ourselves

be better, be better

and beat ourselves 

from the inside out

i chose to leave

if the sky breaks open
and emotions pour out
what will happen to the grass?
will it change color?
Will the birds change their songs?
Trees lose their leaves?
they said it was going to rain all day
but I didn’t feel different.

in the darkness i got mixed up

after the conflict i lost my focus

the spinning words left me dizzy

their intended panic spun my wheels

to fling mud and create a mess

but i found my way back again

to the space where ideas generate
